The United We Stand Child Support Seminar was designed to educate everyday citizens on the laws and departments that govern the child support system in the United States. Although child support law may differ from state to state, each state must follow “The State Plan” which is the foundation of all child support law in every state and territory governed by U. S. law. These federal laws can be found under:

1. The Social Security Act, Title IV, Part D, Section 454 et al.

2. The U. S. Code, Title 42, Chapter 7 – Social Security, Subchapter IV, Part D, Section 651 – 669b.

3. The Code of Federal Regulations, Title 45, Subtitle B, Chapter III Section 300 – 399.

These laws are the framework for child support law across the country. Deviating from these laws may result in financial and or administrative consequences for any Local Child Support Agency that does not properly adhere to them.

The administrative hierarchy for every state’s Local Child Support Agency is as follows:

1. The U. S. Department of Health & Human Services (Xavier Becerra, Secretary).

2. Administration for Children & Families (Jeff Hild, Assistant Secretary).

3. Office of Child Support Services (Tanguler Gray, Commissioner).

4. Your state department of child support services (the name may vary).

4. Your Local Child Support Agency (this is the agency you deal directly with).
